Job Summary:
We are seeking an experienced Shipfitter to perform structural repairs, alterations, and installations on naval vessels. This role requires expertise in fabrication, fitting, and welding preparation, along with the ability to work in confined spaces and adhere to strict safety protocols. The ideal candidate must be physically capable of handling heavy materials and trained in lead awareness, hazardous energy control, and fall protection.
Key Responsibilities:
Shipfitter Duties:
- Remove, alter, repair, and install ship structures, including bulkheads, foundations, hangers, ladders, and stanchions.
- Read and interpret blueprints, templates, and layout specifications to fabricate structural components.
- Prepare materials for welding by chipping, beveling, hand-grinding, and cleaning surfaces.
- Assist in post-weld cleanup and ensure structural repairs meet quality standards.
- Remove and reinstall tank access covers to support other shipboard maintenance work.
Lead Worker Duties: (5% of the work)
- Handle, lift, and carry raw lead materials weighing up to 80 lbs as required.
- Wear and properly use respiratory Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) for lead safety.
- Maintain compliance with Occupational Safety and Health (OSH) Lockout/Tagout procedures, hazardous energy control, fall protection, hearing conservation, and eye safety awareness.
- Work safely in confined and enclosed spaces, following all industry standards and regulations.
Tank Watch Responsibilities:
- Monitor work conducted in confined spaces and identify common safety hazards.
- Communicate with confined space entrants at designated intervals to ensure safety.
- Read and understand company confined space certificates and safety requirements.
- Complete company confined space awareness training and demonstrate familiarity with work being performed.
Requirements:
- Experience in shipfitting, fabrication, and structural repair.
- Knowledge of confined space safety protocols and ability to work in enclosed areas.
- Physical capability to lift and handle heavy materials (up to 80 lbs).
- Training and certification in:
- Lead Awareness & Respiratory PPE Use
- Lockout/Tagout & Hazardous Energy Control
- Fall Protection, Hearing Conservation & Eye Safety Awareness
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints, layouts, and technical documents.
- Strong attention to detail and adherence to safety and quality standards.
