Job Title: Material Handling Equipment Mechanic

Job Summary:
The Material Handling Equipment Mechanic is responsible for maintaining, repairing, and ensuring operational readiness of various types of shipyard mobile support equipment (SMSE). This role focuses on mechanical systems used in a shipyard environment, including container handlers, mobile cargo cranes, shipboard aerial work platforms, telescopic boom lift trucks, scissor-lift platforms, and diesel conveyor belt vehicles. Candidates with prior experience as Navy Aviation Ordnance Support Equipment Technicians are highly encouraged to apply.

Key Responsibilities:

Perform regular maintenance and emergency repairs on SMSE, ensuring all equipment is operational and meets safety standards.
Diagnose mechanical issues using manual and computerized tools and equipment.
Disassemble, repair, and reassemble equipment, replacing defective parts as needed.
Conduct safety inspections on hydraulic systems, lifting gear, and other critical components of material handling equipment.
Keep detailed records of maintenance schedules, repairs, and replacement parts.
Collaborate with shipyard management and other technical staff to coordinate maintenance and repair activities.
Train and guide junior mechanics and technicians on proper maintenance procedures and techniques.
Ensure compliance with all environmental, health, and safety regulations in the workplace.
Qualifications:

Proven experience as a mechanic specializing in heavy equipment, preferably in a shipyard or similar industrial environment.
Technical training or certification in mechanical repair, hydraulic systems, or a related field.
Strong understanding of the operational mechanics of mobile cargo handling and lifting equipment.
Excellent troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
Ability to read and interpret mechanical diagrams and technical manuals.
Prior military experience as an Aviation Ordnance Support Equipment Technician is a plus.
Effective communication skills and the ability to work as part of a team.
Physical Requirements:

Must be capable of physical exertion required to complete heavy lifting, climbing, bending, and maneuvering through confined spaces.
Ability to work in various weather conditions and at heights.
Work Environment:

The role is primarily based in a shipyard environment, involving both indoor and outdoor work.
Exposure to high noise levels, heavy machinery, and potentially hazardous materials.
