Medication Technician/Aide needed to join the nursing team at the Hampton Sheriff's Department's 2 facilities. Aide will rotate through the 2 facilities of the Sheriff's Department providing care to prisoners.
MUST BE VIRGINIA LICENSED MEDICATION AIDE AND HAVE CURRENT CPR
Day Shift: 8: 00am - 4: 30pm
Evening Shift: 4: 00pm to 12: 30am
Night Shift: 12: 00 Midnight to 8: 30am
*MUST BE FLEXIBLE TO WORK ANY SHIFT AS NEEDED.
Facility is open 7-days per week.
MUST BE ABLE TO PASS CRIMINAL BACKGROUND CHECK AND DRUG TEST, VALID DRIVER'S LICENSE of NO LESS THANN A -2 DMV record.
GENERAL STATEMENT OF RESPONSIBILITIES
In a team relationship with the Registered Nurse and LPN, the Medication Technician contributes to the nursing process through on-going systematic data collection, assisting in the health assessment, recording observations, goal identification and patient health education.
Performs duties under the direct supervision of the Health Sendees Administrator and is accountable for use of delegated authority.
Pursuant to 15.2-1603 of the Code of Virginia incumbent is appointed at-will and senses at the pleasure of the Sheriff. This position is non-exempt.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Responds to initiates the care for medical emergencies throughout the facility. This includes the ability to perform continuous CPR until properly relieved.
Administers and documents medications on the Medication Administration Record.
Assists with histories and physicals on inmates.
Assesses patient's health status and refers to appropriate level of healthcare provider.
Physically assists Physician in patient examinations and treatments.
Documents all nursing care provided.
Implements and follows up on Physician / Dentist written orders and verbal orders if permitted.
Teaches healthcare information to patients and correctional staff.
Adheres to safety and security policies and participates in disaster drills.
Performs venipuncture and I. V. Therapy, if certified.
Collects samples, specimens and cultures per Physician orders.
Follows security regulations for keys, sharps .And controlled medications.
Ability to deal with and respond to stressful situations in a stressful environment.
Requires regular and reliable attendance.
Adheres to Universal Precautions and other appropriate infection control practices.

Competitive pay of $14.66 per hour, plus overtime as needed!
