Job Description

CTR Group is seeking an Outside Machinist. Immediate openings and urgently hiring!

Pay: $20-$27 depending on experience plus $120 per diem

SKILLS: 
Experienced in machinery overhaul and installation and testing of all the following:
  • Winches (Electric driven* Electro hydraulic)
  • Anchor windlasses
  • Steering gear
  • Air compressors
  • Pump and motor alignments
  • Valve repairs
  • Diesel engine repairs
  • Hydraulic trouble shooting * repairs
  • Reduction gear repairs
  • Generator repairs
  • Boat davit repairs
  • Bearing fit-up & installation
  • Gas turbine repairs
  • Louvers
  • Aircraft Elevators
  • Underwater Hull Strainer Plates
  • Cranes
  • Brakes
  • Resilient Mounts
  • Emitter Belts
  • OD Box Removal/Install
  • Sliding Pad Eyes
  • Rast Track
RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Assures that a Work Authorization Form (WAF) ticket is on the job site and that it is for the specific job being accomplished, no work will be accomplished without a WAF posted at location of repairs.
  • Assures that any other safety issues are complied with that relate to the specific job being accomplished (Example: special staging, face shields for grinding, protective clothing for hot work-related jobs, breathing apparatus with correct cartridges, etc.).
  • Assures that you are trained or qualified for the work you are assigned to do (Example: JLG, forklift, welding, brazing, special electrical/mechanical repairs, etc.).
  • Assures that personnel are working as safely and as productively as possible always maintaining quality control.
  • Assures that a 30-minute cool down period has been accomplished in hot work areas.
  • Assures that the job site is left in a safe and clean condition prior to departure.
  • Complete repairs or installation(s) as assigned with no supervision.
REQUIREMENTS:
  • 2-5 years directly related experience in a Shipyard Environment.
  • Able to read and use tech manuals and blueprints and specification items. 
  • Able to use and understand precision measuring instruments.
  • Climb on and around ships and walk to other yard areas and requires extended periods of standing and walking (75%). 
  • Inspections and work may require climbing ladders, working at heights, walking on scaffolding and observing co-workers using tools and equipment. 
  • Lifting/carrying tools and parts weighing up to 50 lbs. on frequent basis.  
  • Standing, bending, sitting, reaching, pushing, pulling, crouching, kneeling, handling, finger dexterity, feeling, eye/hand/foot coordination, seeing, hearing required. 
  • Selecting appropriate tools for jobs, as per trade classification. 
  • Works in tight, confined workspaces on board ship and is exposed to varied temperatures, wind, wet and humid conditions, fumes, odors and dust, vibrations from ship and hand tools.
  • Operate grinder (fixed and portable).
  • Operate drill presses (fixed and portable).
  • Fixed presses, porta powers, and hydraulic jacks.
  • Torches and torque wrenches.
  • Assorted sizes of combination wrenches.
  • Socket sets, slip joint pliers, adjustable wrenches, and wire pliers.
  • Hammers-ball pean, flat head, small mall, and screw drivers (flat and phillips).
  • Vise grips, 6” scale- 12’ tape measure, and snap ring pliers.
  • Micrometers, dial indicators, and calipers.
  • Pipe wrench, punch set, and chisels.
  • Other tools as identified and determined as needed.
  • Shafting repairs and alignment fixed and controllable pitch.
  • Propellers removed and installed.
  • Rudder's repair and installed.
