CTR Group is seeking Riggers for a Shipyard in Norfolk, VA.
SKILLS:
Rigger Certification, Shipboard Rigging Experience, Technical Training, Hand Tools, Rigging Trade Tools & Instruments, Safety Conscious, Weight Handling.
1st shift may work 8, 10 or 12 hours
Rigger certification required
All safety training including firewatch
QUALIFICATIONS
High school diploma or equivalent
Minimum of 3 - 5 years of shipboard rigging experience
Technical training preferred
Knowledge of and ability to use hand tools and instruments associated with the rigging trade
Must be able to work effectively with others
Must be a steady, reliable worker
Must be able to comprehend and follow simple instructions
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND FUNCTIONS:
- Assist with the erection or scaffolding or staging in order to efficiently complete assigned jobs
- Assist with various aspects of weight testing within the safety guidelines
- Fabricates, installs, and repairs rigging and weight handling gear on ships and attaches plates and pulling gear to rigging to lift, move, and position machinery, equipment, structural parts and other heavy loads aboard ship.
- Selects and attaches gear, braces, and cushions according to weight and distribution of load, availability of hoisting machinery and presence of obstacles.
- Controls movement of heavy objects/equipment through narrow openings and confined spaces, using jacks, pulley blocks, chain falls, and rollers
- Rigs and hangs scaffolds and stages
- Must walk gangway to board ship
- Must climb vertical ladder to travel to bottom of ship depending on location of job
- Uses tools: wrench, knife, hammer to drive pins in staging. Form slings and towing bridals by looping and splicing cable or by crimping metal rope to form nets, ladders and other rigging. Installs hooks, swivels, and turn buckles in rigging
- Selects and attaches gear, braces and cushions according to weight and distribution of load
- Control cost in assigned area of responsibility
- Be able to adapt in an environment with extreme temperature exposure
- Signals workers operating cranes or other equipment to move load
- Forms slings and towing bridals by looping and splicing cable or by crimping metal rope to form nets, ladders, and other rigging
- Other duties may be assigned as workload dictates
- Understand and act upon simple instruction
- Work independently to complete responsibilities
- Must have regular, reliable attendance

- 12” crescent wrench
- Knife
- Lineman’s pliers
- Combination wrench set
- Marlin spike
- Channel lock’s
- Tape measure
