Job Description

CTR Group is seeking several Dry Dock Mechanic’s local to the Norfolk, VA area. Immediate openings and urgently hiring!

Pay: $20 to $28.75 depending on experience

RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Verify that tanks/compartments have an updated Safe for Hot Work ticket and that all requirements (ventilation, lighting, safety equipment, etc.) are met.
  • Confirm that conditions of the tank/compartment have not changed since the ticket was issued (e.g., fuel run back, unsafe working conditions).
  • Ensure that a Work Authorization Form (WAF) ticket is present at the job site and corresponds to the specific job being performed.
  • Prevent work from beginning unless a WAF is properly posted at the repair location.
  • Monitor compliance with all safety requirements related to the job (e.g., staging, face shields for grinding, protective clothing for hot work, breathing apparatus with correct cartridges).
  • Perform only work for which you are trained and qualified (e.g., JLG, forklift, welding, brazing, electrical/mechanical repairs).
  • Direct personnel to work safely, productively, and with consistent quality control.
  • Leave the job site in a safe and clean condition prior to departure.
  • Complete assignments independently, with or without reasonable accommodation.
REQUIREMENTS:
  • Must be able to wear personal protective equipment as required.
  • Must be able to work evening and weekend hours
  • Must have the ability to navigate a ship, the drydock, and understand compartment designation.
  • Must have strong knowledge of technical publications and drawings.
  • Must be able to repair and/or install equipment using mechanical knowledge and technical diagrams and diagnose drydock machinery/equipment to determine problems and make proper repairs.
  • Must be able to accurately use measuring instruments (micrometer, tachometer, dial indicator, caliper) and interpret gauges, meters, and alarms to identify potential malfunctions and take corrective action.
  • Must be knowledgeable in the use of common shop and hand tools.
  • Must be able to perform duties required to prepare the drydock for docking evolution, including fabrication, preparation, and assembly of drydock blocks.
  • Must be able to perform drydocking evolution duties (e.g., diesel engine watch, equipment operation) and drydock watch duties in accordance with operational procedures.
