Job Summary:
 A Shipyard Mechanic is responsible for performing maintenance, repair, and installation of mechanical systems and equipment on ships, boats, and other marine vessels. The role requires strong mechanical skills, troubleshooting ability, and adherence to safety standards in a shipyard environment.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Inspect, maintain, and repair engines, pumps, hydraulics, and other mechanical systems on ships and boats.
  • Perform preventive maintenance according to schedules and manufacturer guidelines.
  • Troubleshoot mechanical issues, diagnose problems, and implement effective solutions.
  • Install, adjust, or replace mechanical components, such as propulsion systems, steering gear, and auxiliary machinery.
  • Operate tools and machinery safely, including welding and fabrication equipment when necessary.
  • Collaborate with engineers, electricians, and other technicians to complete repairs efficiently.
  • Maintain accurate records of work performed, parts used, and service reports.
  • Ensure compliance with safety, environmental, and maritime regulations.
  • Participate in emergency repairs and on-call maintenance as needed.
Qualifications:
  • High school diploma or equivalent; vocational or technical training in marine mechanics preferred.
  • Proven experience as a mechanic in shipyards, marine engineering, or related industries.
  • Strong knowledge of mechanical systems, hydraulics, and engines.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical manuals, blueprints, and schematics.
  • Familiarity with safety procedures and maritime regulations.
  • Physical stamina to perform manual labor in challenging environments.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
Working Conditions:
  • Work is performed on ships, in docks, and shipyard facilities.
  • May involve exposure to noise, fumes, and heavy machinery.
  • May require working in confined spaces, at heights, and in varying weather conditions.
