Must‑Have Qualifications
Minimum 4+ years of trade experience
Strong basic math, reading, and comprehension skills
Ability to read and interpret blueprints (metric & standard)
Knowledge of layout, fit‑up, and fabrication of steel plate and beam
Experience using trade tools such as: grinder, hand torch, hydraulic jack, ratchet jack, chain fall, come‑along, combination square, framing square, hand level, plumb bob
Nice‑to‑Have Skills
6+ years marine, shipbuilding, or construction experience
Knowledge of unit setting and erection, including use of datum lines
Familiarity with fit‑up and alignment tolerances
Advanced blueprint reading skills
Position Overview
The First‑Class Shipfitter is responsible for the fabrication, assembly, and erection of metal components used in the construction of marine vessels. Work may include:
Structural layout and fit‑up
Preparing steel for welding
Working in confined spaces, at heights, and in various weather conditions
Supporting production across multiple shifts depending on project demand
