Position Overview
The Welder is responsible for fabricating, assembling, and repairing components and equipment, primarily using Gas Metal Arc Welding (GMAW) and Flux-Cored Arc Welding (FCAW) processes. This role requires a detail-oriented professional committed to producing high-quality work while adhering to safety protocols.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Welding & Fabrication
- Execute GMAW/FCAW welding on various steel and alloy components as per specifications and blueprints
- Inspect materials and final products to ensure adherence to quality standards
- Choose appropriate welding parameters (e.g., voltage, wire feed speed, gas flow) based on material type and thickness
Blueprint & Specification Review
- Read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and welding symbols to accurately determine weld requirements
- Collaborate with supervisors or engineers to clarify technical specifications and resolve design challenges
Equipment Setup & Maintenance
- Set up, operate, and maintain welding equipment, such as torches, wire feeders, and positioners
- Conduct routine inspections and basic troubleshooting of welding machinery
Safety & Compliance
- Follow all safety regulations and procedures, including the use of personal protective equipment (PPE)
- Comply with relevant industry standards (e.g., AWS, ASME) and internal company quality standards
- Keep work areas clean and organized, maintaining a safe and efficient environment
Documentation & Reporting
- Record welding parameters, consumables usage, and production outputs
- Assist in completing accurate records of projects, including time spent and materials used
Collaboration & Continuous Improvement
- Work closely with team members to meet production goals and deadlines
- Propose ways to improve welding methods, reduce defects, and streamline processes
Education and Experience
- High school diploma or GED equivalent (technical certification in welding preferred)
- Minimum of 3+ years of welding experience, especially with GMAW/FCAW processes
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities
- Certifications: AWS or similar welding certifications are a plus
- Technical Skills:
- Proficiency in reading blueprints, welding symbols, and work instructions
- Familiarity with overhead crane or forklift operation is beneficial
- Soft Skills:
- Strong attention to detail and quality
- Good communication skills and a team-oriented mindset
- Ability to adapt to changing priorities with minimal supervision
Physical Requirements
- Lift and carry up to 50 lbs. regularly
- Stand, bend, and reach for extended periods
- Work in varying temperatures typical of a production environment
Working Conditions
- Full-time, Monday–Friday (shifts may vary)
- Overtime may be required to meet production deadlines
- Manufacturing environment with moderate to loud noise levels
